Freeport has no Plans to Build Indonesian Copper Smelters, Despite Pressure from Government

Reuters reported that, despite pressure from the Indonesian governement, Freeport McMoRan is not going to build copper smelters in the country.

As quoted in the market report:

Smelting is a difficult business. You have big capital expenditure and small or no margins at current treatment and refining charges (TC/RCs), and I don’t see TC/RCs improving in coming years,” he added.
