European Lithium To Acquire Austrian Lithium Projects

European Lithium builds project portfolio with acquisition of lithium projects located in the Styria mining district of Austria.

European Lithium Limited (ASX: EUR, FRA:PF8, OTC: EULIF) (European Lithium or the Company) is pleased to announce it has executed a binding Heads of Agreement with 2743718 Ontario Inc. (Ontario), a subsidiary of Richmond Minerals Inc. (TSX-V: RMD) (Richmond)(HOA), pursuant to which European Lithium has agreed to acquire, and Ontario has agreed to sell, 100% of the rights, title and interest in the Bretstein-Lachtal Project, Klementkogel Project and the Wildbachgraben Project (together Austrian Lithium Projects)(Acquisition).

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Bretstein-Lachtal, Klementkogel and Wildbachgraben projects (Austrian Lithium Projects) are covered by exploration licences that total 114.6 km2, targeting lithium with known occurrences in the Styria mining district of Austria;
  • Underexplored area within a region that is adjacent to the Company’s Wolfsberg Lithium Project;
  • Reconnaissance campaign has confirmed the presence of multiple pegmatite bodies, Rock chip samples by Richmond Minerals Inc. show grades up to 2.67 % Li2O hosted by Spodumene Pegmatites1;
  • Acquisition of 100% of the rights, title and interest in the Austrian Lithium Projects;Subject to satisfactory due diligence within 3 months;
  • Consideration is $250,000 cash, 2 million shares and 2 million options, with settlement expected to be 7 July 2023
Tony Sage, Chairman, commented: “The acquisition is an excellent opportunity to secure ground in a largely unexplored area highly prospective for lithium and builds on our portfolio of European projects in a known jurisdiction where we have exploration and development experience. The Company is in the final stages of completing a proposed merger transaction that will see the advanced Wolfsberg Lithium Project develop under the control of Critical Metals Corp. that intends to list on NASDAQ. Once complete, together with our Ukrainian assets, the Company will refocus on building and developing critical metal projects in Europe.”

The Austrian Lithium Projects consist of 245 exploration licenses covering a total area of 114.6 km². The licenses cover ground that is considered prospective for lithium occurrences in the Styria mining district of Austria.

Austrian Lithium Projects

The licenses in the Austrian Lithium Projects include the Wildbachgraben Project, comprising 32 licenses covering 14.9 km²; the Klementkogel Project comprising 22 licenses covering 10.5 km²; and the Bretstein- Lachtal Project comprising 191 licenses covering 89.2 km².

The Austrian Lithium Projects are hosted by comparable, prospective geological units as EUR’s Wolfsberg Lithium Project and show a similar vein type mineralisation with spodumene as the main lithium bearing mineral.

Figure 1 – Austrian Lithium Projects location.

The most advanced and prospective, Bretstein-Lachtal Project, located approximately 80km from the Wolfsberg Lithium Project, shows historical surface mapping of spodumene pegmatite occurrences. Spodumene pegmatite outcrops at Bretstein-Lachtal Project were reported with Li2O grades up to 2.93% and spodumene crystal sizes as large as 10 cm by Mali (2004).

A reconnaissance campaign completed by Richmond Minerals in the summer of 2022 revealed multiple pegmatite bodies in the Bretstein-Lachtal Project area and confirms the descriptions of Mali (2004). Spodumene pegmatite veins were observed up to a meter thickness with spodumene crystals up to 10 cm size. Geochemical results from grab rock chip samples indicate prospective spodumene pegmatites with Li2O grades ranging from 0.51 to 2.67% (Table 1 and Figure 2).

Livium and Mineral Resources Form Joint Venture to Advance LieNA Technology

Livium (ASX:LIT) and Mineral Resources (ASX:MIN,OTC Pink:MALRF) said on Monday (August 11) that they have agreed to a 50/50 joint venture regarding the LieNA lithium-processing technology.

LieNA, the joint venture entity, was formerly a subsidiary of Livium, the owner of the intellectual property for the LieNA technology — an innovative process designed to recover lithium from spodumene.

The joint venture's formation comes after the completion of Stage 1A activities under a joint development deal. The companies first began working together in August 2023, and agreed to additional Stage 1A work in January.

Lithium Prices Surge After CATL Halts Major Mine in China

Lithium prices and mining stocks around the world soared this week after Chinese battery giant Contemporary Amperex Technology (CATL) (SZSE:300750,HKEX:3750) suspended operations at one of the world’s largest lithium mines.

The halt at the Jianxiawo lepidolite mine in Jiangxi province’s Yichun city, a hub for China’s lithium production, came after the mine’s permit expired on August 9.

New Study Highlights Western Australia's Lithium Leadership and Future Potential

Western Australia has a strong lithium history, and a recent study could help inform future exploration.

Put together by researchers from the Geological Survey of Western Australia (GSWA), Curtin University and the University of Western Australia, the report focuses on the formation of high-grade lithium deposits.

It states that Western Australia supplies around 35 percent of the world's lithium, with much of that coming from pegmatite, a coarse-grained rock commonly found in the state's Archean terrains.

AI Uncovers Five Potential Lithium Alternatives for Next-generation Batteries

Generative artificial intelligence (AI) has helped a group of scientists identify five new materials that could power the next wave of batteries without relying on lithium.

The study, published on June 26 in Cell Reports Physical Science, focuses on materials that could enable multivalent-ion batteries — a technology long touted for its potential, but hindered by practical challenges.

Top 9 Global Lithium Stocks of 2025

Lithium prices continued their downward trajectory in 2025's second quarter, with battery-grade lithium carbonate hitting a four year low of US$8,329 per metric ton in late June.

Lithium hydroxide followed suit as oversupply and bearish sentiment weighed on the market.

Despite strong electric vehicle (EV) demand, mine supply — driven largely by China, Australia, Argentina and emerging African producers — has outpaced consumption, with Fastmarkets forecasting a 260,000 metric ton surplus for 2025.

5 Best-performing ASX Lithium Stocks of 2025

Global demand for lithium presents a significant opportunity for Australia.

Australia remains the world’s largest lithium miner, supplying nearly 30 percent of global production in 2024, though its dominance is waning as other lithium-producing countries like Zimbabwe, Argentina and Brazil scale up output.

This influx of supply has pushed lithium prices to multiyear lows, with battery-grade spodumene trading under US$800/tonne — pressuring even efficient Australian producers to trim output or delay projects.
