XPS Reports on Progress at Lundin’s Michigan Nickel Mine
Mineweb reported that XPS Consulting & Testwork Services has published some of its metallurgical work on Lundin Mining Corp.’s (TSX:LUN) Michigan-based nickel mine.
Mineweb reported that XPS Consulting & Testwork Services has published some of its metallurgical work on Lundin Mining Corp.’s (TSX:LUN) Michigan-based nickel mine. It is due for commissioning later this year and will the United States’ first primary nickel mine.
As quoted in the market news:
The project consists of the Eagle underground mine, located approximately 55 km northwest of Marquette, Michigan, USA and the Humboldt mill, located around 60 km west of Marquette in Champion, Michigan. The mine and mill are currently under development and construction is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter. Once in operation, the mine is expected to produce an average of 17,000 tonne/year each of nickel and copper over the current mine life of 8 years at an average cash cost of $2.50/lb of nickel. The project was acquired from Rio Tinto in July 2013.
Eagle is the first mine to be permitted under Michigan’s Part 632 Non Ferrous Mineral Mining Law. The underground mine is expected to produce 360 million pounds of nickel, 295 million pounds of copper and small amounts of other metals over its estimated eight year mine life.
