Mining Weekly reported MMC Norilsk Nickel (LSE:MNOD) reported its project in South Africa has seen an increase in production while its Botswana production has decreased.
As quoted in the market news:
Nkomati is South Africa’s only primary nickel producer, but its output includes palladium, platinum, copper and chromium as by-products. It is important to note that all the following figures for Nkomati refer to the Russian group’s 50% share and not the full sales from the mine – to calculate that, the following numbers have to be doubled. Norilsk sold 5 000 t of nickel from Nkomati in 2011, a dramatic jump of 400% over the 2010 figure of 1 000 t. Copper output sold was 2 000 t, a 100% rise over 2010’s 1 000 t. Palladium sales came to 19 000 troy ounces, a 171% improvement, compared with 7 000 troy ounces in 2010. Platinum transactions came to 6 000 troy ounces, up from 2 000 troy ounces in 2010, an increase of 200%.
