Silver prices were down today, with trading thin due to the impending new year holiday, MarketWatch reported. Silver futures for March delivery dropped $0.23, to $19.40 an ounce.
Kitco also reported that light trading activity is affecting metals today. Japan’s markets were closed for the holiday, and western nations have seen little activity since Christmas.
Overall, 2013 was the worst year for both gold and silver since 1984. Prices for the white metal have plummeted this year, sinking about 36 percent over the course of 2013.
