VIDEO - Colin Fisher Reflects on Stock Picks and Tech Sector
Colin Fisher, president of StableView Asset Management, spoke to INN at the Cantech Investment Conference in Toronto.
At the Cantech Investment Conference in Toronto, Colin Fisher, president of StableView Asset Management, spoke to the Investing News Network about his top stock picks, the growth of the technology sector and its impact on other emerging markets.
Fisher, who was part of the “Fund Managers Share Their Top Picks for 2019” panel at the conference, said when it comes to the technologies required for areas like cannabis, they are are not “unique.”
He explained that a lot of tech companies “building up” in the space are “light years behind” their counterparts in other advanced industries.
“But a lot of technologies are not that advanced, in my opinion, in the space,” Fisher said.
In terms of his stock picks, Fisher’s first choice was iLookAbout (TSXV:ILA), a visual and data analytics company catering to the real estate and property assessment markets.
Fisher highlighted the management team of iLookAbout and called it a “critical element” for investors to consider when looking at any company.
“Management is first and foremost,” Fisher said. “When you look at people who have history of building companies, building wealth and building wealth for shareholders, that’s a compelling argument.”
Further, Fisher highlighted the company’s solutions and its position in the industry.
“In the industry perspective, they’re doing the real estate technology marketplace,” he said. “That is an industry that is really being disruptive … and they’ve [got] a lot of the transformative technologies right now.”
The company announced in November 2018 that it had entered into a non-binding agreement with StableView Asset Management and Clarocity (TSXV:CLY) for the acquisition of Clarocity’s assets.
“Post acquisition, the company is incredibly cheap,” Fisher said in the panel.
As of January 23, StableView held a 31.7-percent stake in Clarocity, a company that provides real estate valuation solutions.
In addition to his top picks, Fisher discussed blockchain‘s status as a “revolutionary and transformational technology,” but said that a lot of “other things” have to fall in place before it can show its “long-term potential.”
