Inpixon (NASDAQ:INPX) announced that it has received a Notice of Allowance from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for its patent through which organizations can automatically disable wireless devices in No-Phone zones.

As quoted in the press release:

US Patent Publication 20120131155 is titled, “Context-based dynamic policy system for mobile devices and supporting network infrastructure.”

Inpixon has incorporated this patentable approach into its award-winning Indoor Positioning Analytics (“IPA”) Platform. IPA uses radio frequency sensors to anonymously identify the indoor location of wireless devices, such as cell phones. IPA is then able to leverage an artificial intelligence-powered data analytics engine to reveal actionable intelligence, such as visitor counts and customer behavior patterns, and deliver this information to customers and users in real time. IPA helps retailers, property owners, businesses and government agencies to deliver superior customer experience and enhanced security.

“Cybersecurity situational awareness and wireless intrusion detection are key value propositions Inpixon IPA Security Dome delivers out of the box,” noted Adam Benson, Chief Technology Officer of Inpixon. “When used in conjunction with an MDM, Inpixon customers can take their BYOD security capabilities to another level.”

The systems covered in Inpixon’s newest patent protect the proprietary ways in which IPA interacts with an endpoint policy management unit, such as Mobile Device Management (MDM), sometimes referred to as Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM), solutions. IPA adds unique capabilities to an MDM solution. Specifically, patented embodiments of the IPA MDM Connector enables MDM administrators to utilize multiple geofenced zones on a facility floor plan. As a wireless device moves throughout the office environment, Inpixon’s IPA platform sends the phone’s location to the MDM, allowing the MDM to push out location-specific policies. A common use case is to disable a phone’s camera, audio recorder and transmission functions while in a high security, no-cell-phones zone. Network privileges such as server and directory access can also be dynamically updated based on location. These capabilities help to prevent recording of confidential conversations, theft of intellectual property, and transmission/reception of voice and data while in specified zones.
