RT News reported this morning that Japan’s Nuclear Regulation Authority has given its preliminary approval regarding the restart of two reactors at the Sendai power plant. Prior to the Fukushima plant disaster, the country generated a third of its electricity from nuclear plants, according to RT News. The restarts are garnering some opposition from the public in Japan. However, the news will likely bode well for the uranium sector.

As quoted in the publication:

Japan shut down all of its nuclear reactors in the wake of the March 2011 quake and tsunami, which caused the Fukushima Daiichi plant disaster. The NRA issued a 400-page report detailing safety measures in place at the Sendai plant on Wednesday. The evaluation took about a year, twice what the regulator initially expected.

Japan’s Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe, commented:

This is a step forward. After we get the safety decision we would like to move towards restarts with understanding from local [townships].
