Sandvine (TSX:SVC) has announced it has integrated its network policy control platform with Google’s Mobile Data Plan Sharing API.
As quoted in the press release:

This integration allows communications service providers (CSPs) to help optimize the experience of select applications for their subscribers based on the data plan they subscribe to.
When implemented, Google’s Mobile Data Plan Sharing API allows applications to adapt their behavior based on factors like the subscriber’s plan type, quota limits, and current network experience, which is all information that can be provided by Sandvine’s platform. These adaptations improve the overall subscriber experience for the optimized applications and help eliminate the need for manual data management by subscribers. For example, an application may defer downloading an update if the subscriber’s data balance is low or delay downloads until off-peak hours when data may be zero-rated.
Sandvine’s integration with Google’s Mobile Data Plan Sharing API aligns with Sandvine’s Application Provider Ecosystem, which allows application and content providers to work directly with Sandvine to ensure accurate traffic recognition, secure charging integration, usage reconciliation, identity management, and fraud prevention.
“Sandvine’s integration with Google’s Mobile Data Plan Sharing API is another tool to help our customers improve subscriber experienceand offer innovative services to their subscibers,” said Don Bowman, CTO, Sandvine. “Sandvine’s integration with Google’s Mobile Data Sharing API opens the door for application providers like YouTube, for example, to automatically deliver high resolution videos to subscribers with unlimited data plans on any network, while automatically delivering lower bitrate video to constrained users, such as those who are about to exceed their data caps or those who are in congested network locations.”
