The Flowr Corporation (TSXV:FLWR) CEO Vinay Tolia, among others, were featured in an article by the BBC. The article talked about how cannabis company’s are preparing for legalization on October 17. Flowr operates and grows cannabis in a highly-controlled 84,000-square-foot facility in British Columbia. According to Tolia, cannabis can be a difficult plant to grow and by managing the humidity, airflow and other factors in a sterilized setting allows them to mass produce a consistent, high-quality plant.

“There is a lot of painstaking care in making the right plant,” said Tolia. “[Cannabis] is very sensitive. You can have the same strains in two different rooms with a slightly different temperature and get completely different chemical compositions.”

Flowr has a partnership with Scotts’ Miracle-Gro and the gardening giant has funded the construction of a R&D lab that will study the genetics of the plant and how it can affect users. Aside from the benefits that this research can bring about, Tolia also discussed the importance of legalizing cannabis from a social perspective.

“You can objectively see that the drug policies have been a failure,” said Tolia. “And why not study it? There are tonnes of medicinal benefits waiting to be discovered that are going to be hugely beneficial to a lot of people.”

The article also discussed how other entrepreneurs in the industry are capitalizing on the market and where they see it heading next.
