Colossus Minerals Inc. (TSX:CSI,OTCQX:COLUF) became aware of a protest that was being organized at its Serra Pelada mine on August 25th, 2013, and took the appropriate preventative steps with Brazilian authorities to ensure the safety of its employees and security of the mine.
As quoted in the press release:
…recently became aware that a protest was being organized at the Company’s property for Sunday, August 25th, 2013. The protest was organized by a group that is vying for control of Cooperativa de Mineração dos Garimpeiros de Serra Pelada (“COOMIGASP”) but who are not recognized by the courts of the State of Pará, Brazil as being the legitimate leaders of the cooperative. The Company took the appropriate preventative steps with Brazilian authorities to ensure the safety of its employees and security of the mine. Public forces were deployed and they prevented the attempted protest from reaching the mine gates. There have been no reports of injury, no damage was sustained and development work was unaffected. The majority of the protesters came from outside the Village of Serra Pelada and community leaders voiced their opposition to the attempted protest.
