Richards Bay Ups Coal Exports by 8 Percent in September

Platts reported the South Africa-based Richards Bay Coal Terminal exported 5.57 million metric tons of coal in September, up 8 percent from August’s three-month low.

Platts reported the South Africa-based Richards Bay Coal Terminal exported 5.57 million metric tons of coal in September, up 8 percent from August’s three-month low.

As quoted in the market news:

Exports for the month were also 6.4% higher than September last year. RBCT said the exports were shipped in 55 vessels comprising 34 Capesize vessels, 12 Panamax ships and nine Handysize cargoes.

According to RBCT’s export destinations breakdown, the largest portion of exports — 31.4% or 1.75 million mt — went to Eastern Asia, which includes China, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan, among others.
