Sydney Morning Herald reported that Australia’s potential to expand coal exports conflicts with goals to lower emissions.
As quoted in the market news:
Back-of-the-envelope figures by one industry analyst (see side story), based on approved or planned port capacity expansion, suggest Australia could reach or even exceed 1 billion tonnes of coal exports a year within a decade, up from about 300 million tonnes this year. Digging up and burning all that coal will be a significant impediment to the world’s effort to limit global warming.
