Test Work on Colorado River Water Confirms Suitability for DLE Extraction Process at Paradox Project

Anson Resources Limited (ASX: ASN, ASNOC, ASNOD) (Anson or the Company) is pleased to announce that test work on the Colorado River water has confirmed its suitability for the Direct Lithium Extraction (DLE) process in the Company’s Paradox Lithium Project in the Paradox Basin in Utah, USA

Highlights:
  • Test Work confirms Colorado River water suitable for Sunresin’s DLE process with only minor pre-treatment required using a simple reverse osmosis process.
  • The Colorado River is the source for the water requirements of the Paradox Project.
  • More than 80% of the water used in the lithium extraction and purification process is re- cycled inside the battery limits.
  • Measures to further increase water recycling and decrease water intensity at the Paradox Project are ongoing.

Water from the Colorado River will be the water source for the lithium recovery and purification process at the Paradox Project (ASX announcement, 23 January 2023). The Sunresin process uses large amounts of water. The location of the Project next to the Colorado River provides a strategic advantage over other projects were water needs to be transported from remote locations or created by other processes.

The results from the test work of the river sample have been highly positive. The results classify the water as ‘fresh water’ with low levels of salts and no detection of deleterious minerals. This outcome indicates that the only intervention required will be a simple reverse osmosis (RO) process to remove the salts, to make the water suitable for use in the DLE circuit.

A RO treatment plant will improve the quality of water to a standard suitable for use in the lithium desorption process, washing the lithium from the DLE resin and in the downstream purification process.

Anson’s ESG policy is based upon reducing environmental impact wherever possible and while it has been estimated that more than 80% of the water used in the lithium production process will be recycled, studies are underway to seek to further improve recycling of the water, which will also have an impact upon operating costs.
