Assays up to 4.2% Li2O Confirm New Spodumene Pegmatites at Lake Johnston

Charger Metals NL (ASX: CHR, “Charger” or the “Company”) is pleased to announce that assay results from rock chip samples from a newly discovered pegmatite outcrop have confirmed high grade lithium up to 4.2% Li2O at the Lake Johnston Lithium Project, Western Australia.

  • Rock chip samples from a recently-identified pegmatite outcrop at the Lake Johnston Lithium Project have returned high-grade lithium assays up to 4.2% Li2O
  • The pegmatite outcrop contains visual spodumene crystals (visual estimates up to 40 – 50%)1 and extends northeast for 85m towards the Medcalf Spodumene Prospect
  • Two other spodumene-bearing pegmatite outcrops are located along the same trend with assays up to 2.2% Li2O and 2.5% Li2O, respectively2
  • Total distance of the new trend of spodumene-bearing pegmatite outcrops is over 1.2km, providing potential for scaleThe new trend is a priority lithium target that will be incorporated into the upcoming drill programmes at the Lake Johnston Lithium Project to be funded by Rio Tinto Exploration pursuant to the recently announced farm-in agreement3
Three samples were collected from across the outcrop, with all three returning high grade lithium results of 4.2%, 3.7%, and 3.5% Li2O. The outcrop was discovered during field mapping by Charger geologists and extends for 85m. Spodumene crystals are visible and are estimated to be up to 40- 50% of the total volume.1

The spodumene-bearing pegmatite outcrop strikes northeast towards the Medcalf Spodumene Prospect. Two other pegmatite outcrops have previously been mapped along this 1.2km trend, both of which have visual spodumene confirmed by high-grade rock chips of up to 2.5% Li2O and 2.2% Li2O, respectively (Figure 1).2

Charger’s Managing Director, Aidan Platel, commented:

“The discovery of this high-grade spodumene-bearing pegmatite outcrop is exciting and highlights the prospectivity of our Lake Johnston Lithium Project. The fact we have three pegmatite outcrops with visual spodumene and confirmed high grade lithium assays along a 1.2km trend suggests the potential for large-scale lithium mineralisation, in close proximity to our Medcalf Spodumene Prospect where earlier this year we drilled a swarm of high-grade spodumene bearing pegmatite veins over a strike of 700m.

This new trend of pegmatites is obviously a high priority target and will be incorporated into the upcoming drill programmes at Medcalf.”

Permitting is continuing for planned drill programmes at the Lake Johnston Lithium Project. A Program of Works (PoW) has been approved for infill and extensional diamond drilling at the Medcalf Spodumene Prospect, which also includes the northeastern -most pegmatite of the new trend.

Aboriginal Heritage surveys are planned for December that will cover the rest of the new pegmatite trend as well as the Mt Gordon Prospect, as are targeted environmental surveys.

AI Uncovers Five Potential Lithium Alternatives for Next-generation Batteries

Generative artificial intelligence (AI) has helped a group of scientists identify five new materials that could power the next wave of batteries without relying on lithium.

The study, published on June 26 in Cell Reports Physical Science, focuses on materials that could enable multivalent-ion batteries — a technology long touted for its potential, but hindered by practical challenges.

Top 9 Global Lithium Stocks of 2025

Lithium prices continued their downward trajectory in Q2 2025, with battery-grade lithium carbonate hitting a four-year low of US$8,329 per metric ton in late June.

Lithium hydroxide followed suit, as oversupply and bearish sentiment weighed on the market.

Despite strong electric vehicle (EV) demand, mined supply — driven largely by China, Australia, Argentina and emerging African producers — has outpaced consumption, with Fastmarkets forecasting a 260,000 metric ton surplus for 2025.

“The industry is navigating a period of complexity,” said Paul Lusty, head of battery raw materials at Fastmarkets, speaking at the firm’s June lithium conference.

5 Best-performing ASX Lithium Stocks of 2025

Global demand for lithium presents a significant opportunity for Australia, which is home to many ASX lithium mining stocks as the world's top lithium producer.

Australia remains the world’s largest lithium miner, supplying nearly 30 percent of global production in 2024, though its dominance is gradually waning as other lithium-producing countries such as Zimbabwe, Argentina and Brazil scale up output.

As a result, oversupply has pushed lithium prices to multiyear lows, with battery-grade spodumene trading under US$800/tonne — pressuring even efficient Australian producers to trim output or delay projects.

Albemarle Swings to Profit, Lowers Spending Amid Prolonged Lithium Slump

Albemarle (NYSE:ALB) is cutting costs and investment plans as it adjusts to lithium price weakness, even as demand from the electric vehicle (EV) and energy storage sectors holds up better than expected.

The major lithium miner reported a Q2 profit of US$22.9 million, a significant turnaround from the US$188.2 million loss it posted a year ago. While total revenue fell 7 percent to US$1.33 billion, the figure still came in ahead of Wall Street’s US$1.22 billion estimate, buoyed by cost management and stronger-than-expected results in its specialties division.

“Our job is just to keep working on the things that are in our control, because we don’t really have a clear line of sight to where pricing is going,” CFO Neal Sheorey told investors on Thursday (July 31).

Top 5 Canadian Lithium Stocks of 2025

As the global push toward electrification accelerates, lithium remains a critical piece of the energy transition.

Continued oversupply remained a persistent headwind for lithium prices through the first half of 2025. Demand for the battery metal jumped 29 percent year-over-year in 2024, fueled by surging electric vehicle sales and rising power needs from sectors like data centers and heavy industry.

Fastmarket’s analysts expect lithium demand to grow 12 percent annually through 2030, supported by structural trends such as renewable energy integration and battery energy storage.
