Positive Test Work Confirms 78.72% Recovery With High-Grade 6.57% Li2O Concentrate From Salinas Lithium Project

Latin Resources Limited (ASX: LRS) (“Latin” or “the Company”) is very pleased to provide the following update on the preliminary “sighter” metallurgical test work completed on drill core from the Company’s 100% owned high-grade Salinas Lithium Project (“Salinas”) (Appendix 1).

Highlights

  • Extremely positive first pass sighter metallurgical test work results on the Colina lithium pegmatite sample:
    • high recovery of 78.72% of Li2O; and
    • production of an extremely high-grade Li2O concentrate (up to 6.57%) from simple Heavy Liquid Separation (HLS).
  • The uncomplicated liberation and high recovery rate of the Colina spodumene, at a relatively coarse crush has potential to drive tremendous positive outcomes for project economics, as a result of potentially eliminating the need for a complex and costly floatation processing to achieve a very high-quality concentrate.
  • The very high Li2O recovery rates from simple HLS, may have significant implication for both the initial project capital requirements, and ongoing operational processing costs.
  • Selection and collection of a larger +500kg sample to be completed, with test work to be undertaken at SGS Lakefield Canada as part of the PEA study.

Colina Prospect – Metallurgical Test Work Results

Latin commissioned SGS GEOSOL laboratories (“SGS”), Belo Horizonte Brazil to undertake a program of “sighter” bench scale metallurgical test work on drill core from its Salinas Lithium Project. Results have been independently reviewed and interpreted by Australian BHM Process Consultants (“BHM”), whose key personnel have significant experience in spodumene processing, metallurgy, and process plant design.

Results of the test work has shown that simple Heavy Liquid Separation (“HLS”), was able to recover 78.72% of the Li2O into a concentrate grading a very high 6.57% Li2O. A mass balance for the single sample test work results is tabulated below (Table 1).

CATL Mine Restart Pressures Australian Lithium Market

Australia’s lithium sector is facing pressure on the back of news that Chinese battery giant Contemporary Amperex Technology (CATL) (SZSE:300750,HKEX:3750) is expected to resume production at its Jianxiawo mine.

Operations were halted in August when the mine’s licence expired, with the suspension expected to last three months.

Located in Yichun, Jiangxi province, Jianxiawo produces about 65,000 tonnes of lithium carbonate equivalent annually, roughly 6 to 8 percent of global supply. It is the largest mine in Yichun, often referred to as China’s “lithium capital.”

Billionaire-backed KoBold Metals Secures DRC Licenses in Push for Manono Lithium

KoBold Metals, a US-backed mining firm supported by billionaires Jeff Bezos and Bill Gates, has received seven new permits to explore for lithium in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

The DRC mining registry confirmed on Wednesday (August 27) that the permits cover ground in both the Tanganyika and Haut-Lomami provinces, including four in Manono territory, home to the massive Roche Dure lithium deposit.

The approvals follow a July agreement between KoBold and the DRC government that positioned the company to acquire and develop the disputed Manono project, considered one of world's largest untapped lithium deposits.
