Platts reported that Japan has joined the European Union and United States in filing a complaint against China’s molybdenum export quota despite being unaffected by the policy.
Yuki Tanabe, assistant counselor at the Ministry of Economy, Trade & Industry, commented:
In the US and Europe, industries have strong concerns over China restricting exports of molybdenum, although in Japan it is not so much, as our dependence on Chinese molybdenum is low. On the contrary, Japan’s industries are affected by China’s rare earth export policy as China’s rare earth exports to Japan account for half of China’s total exports of the metal. So Japan joined the US and the EU in this process.
