BHP Billiton (BLT.L) (BHP.AX), the world’s biggest mining company, gave a first estimate for the size of its Jansen potash deposit in Canada, the potential cornerstone of a new money-spinning division.

The press release is quoted as saying:

BHP (BILJ.J) is building up a new potash division in Canada’s Saskatchewan province, betting on rising future demand from booming emerging markets for fertiliser ingredients such as potash. Jansen is expected to reach full production capacity of about 8 million tonnes of saleable potash per year.
