General Electric (NYSE:GE) is planning to build a 30-megawatt energy storage system in California, Bloomberg reports. The project will mark the biggest battery deal for the company to date.
As quoted in the publication:
Coachella Energy Storage Partners will use the system to provide load balancing, frequency regulation and other services to local utility Imperial Irrigation District, Fairfield, Connecticut-based GE said in a statement Thursday.
This is GE’s third deal this year for its lithium-ion storage system. It shows growing demand from utilities for the technology to complement wider use of renewable energy. Battery storage systems help grid operators manage fluctuations in voltage caused by sudden changes in demand and supplies from intermittent power sources like solar and wind.
