John McCoach: Great TSXV Stories Still Exist

In this VRIC interview, McCoach touches on the TSXV’s recent town hall meetings and what’s being done to stoke investor interest in TSXV-listed stocks.

The junior mining space is currently in a slump, and that slump is perhaps most clear when looking at the recent performance of the TSX Venture Composite index (INDEXTSI:JX). It’s down 26.47 percent in the last year and 78.7 percent in the last five years, and recently hit a historic low.
With those stats in mind, it’s perhaps unsurprising that the TSX Venture Exchange (TSXV) recently hosted a series of town hall meetings aimed at discussing proposed changes to the exchange (the Vancouver meeting was reportedly particularly spirited). “We decided to consolidate a lot of ideas that we’ve had … but more importantly gather stakeholder input on ideas that our clients have, and implement them as a package,” TSXV President John McCoach explained at the recent Vancouver Resource Investment Conference.
McCoach also touched on a variety of other issues, including:
  • Requirements for listing on the TSXV: “So far that the majority of people feel that our continued listing standards … are about at the right level, and that we should continue to be transparent about that and to enforce those,” he said.
  • Investor access to TSXV-listed stocks: “We’re also working to reduce the barriers for US investors accessing the Canadian capital markets,” McCoach noted.
