China Hikes Smelting, Steel Capacity Cuts

Reuters Africa reports that China has ordered local governments to cut a total 2.04 million tonnes of aluminum, copper, lead and zinc smelting capacity in 2011.

The market news is quoted as saying:

China is the world’s top producer and consumer of aluminium, lead and zinc and the largest consumer of copper.
